How To Get Rid Of Bumps In Bikini Area
We have all experienced the itchiness, the swelling, the discomfort that comes with having your bikini line being colonized by giant bumps or rashes by the dozens. Most people cannot be bothered but best believe that the sight is not pretty and we ladies need to rectify that.
The hair of the pubic region makes the area prone to acne-type lesions called folliculitis. The spots are an inflammation of the hair follicles, and they appear as red bumps, sometimes with pus inside them. Itchiness and tenderness are common. The condition has many potential causes, including friction, bacteria, fungi and yeasts.
The following would put you on the path to saying goodbye to the bumps or acne in no time.
Exfoliation
Apply a moisturizer or exfoliant such as a mitt, washcloth, or loofahs sponge twice a week. This removes dead cells that block hair follicles. It also provides a smooth surface, which makes the blade of your shaving stick cut easily and prevents irritating the skin. Exfoliation also frees hair trapped within the bumps, opens clogged pores, prevents the spread of infection to other areas from the existing bumps, and eliminates formation of news ones. If the skin is already inflamed, wait for a day after shaving before exfoliaing to reduce further irritation.
Shaving with Warm Water
Take a warm shower before shaving. Wash the area well and apply a moisturizer containing alpha hydroxy or glycolic acids. Also you can lay a wet and warm washcloth over the area for five minutes before shaving. Using warm water or washcloth softens the hair and prevents irritation. Wash the area with salicylic acid to kill any possible present bacteria. After shaving, apply cold water to close up the skin pores and prevent further irritation and infections.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is one thing everybody should have. This multi purpose ingredient is a lifesaver; it’s an anti-inflammatory agent which soothes the skin and prevents irritation and razor bump development. Mix one cup of water with one teaspoonful of baking soda thoroughly, and apply it on the affected area after a shave. Allow this mixture to remain on the area for three to five minutes. Rinse the area with cold water to facilitate pore closing. The burning sensation and redness should disappear after a short while. Repeat this action two times daily until you feel better.
Do Not Shave Every Day
Do not shave so often. Allow the hair to grow a little bit and allow your razor rest so it doesn’t get blunt. Take about three days off in between shaving. Shaving often facilitates tear and irritation, which further opens the recovering bumps to infections.
Wear the Right Underwear
Too much friction and pressure prevents pubic hair from growing in the right way. This results in irritations, ingrown hair, and most importantly red bumps. It is imperative to wear a smooth underwear and big enough to cover the entire area to reduce pressure and friction against your clothes. Wear non-textured cotton or synthetic underwear to allow your skin breathe and prevent accumulation of bacteria that may cause razor bumps.
Do not Pick or Scratch the Area
Picking your Razor bumps on/in the bikini area would only multiply bacteria. It also causes more pain and redness and slows the healing process. If you accidentally touch the area, it is best to apply hydrogen peroxide two times on that day, or wash the area clean with a zit zapping facial cleanser. This action will immediately erase any developing discomfort by eliminating bump causing bacteria.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera acts both as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent that is essential in moisturizing and healing bumps on sensitive skin areas. In addition, it is not smelly like other post-shave treatments such as glycolic and salicylic acids, and is very compatible with almost all skin types. Apply fresh gel from Aloe-Vera leaves to the affected area, allow it to dry on its own, and then rinse it with cool water. Repeat this technique two to three times a day until the area recovers.
Hydrocortisone Cream Or Essential Oils
Hydrocortisone cream reduces redness, swelling, inflammation and bumps. Just apply a very little amount of this cream on the area and within no time, soreness, razor burns, and bumps will be over. Other very common treatments to apply include essential oils, honey and Vinegar, oatmeal, Retin-A cream, Tea tree oil, and olive oil, and Witch hazel which all have antibacterial and skin-soothing properties.
