Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has spoken about her struggle with hyperemesis gravidarum.
Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe pregnancy condition that causes intense discomfort during pregnancy.
The actress and her husband, singer Bankole Wellington (Banky W), welcomed their second child in 2024.
Her revelation came after reports emerged about a pregnant UK woman, Jess Cronshaw, who took her own life due to the unbearable effects of hyperemesis gravidarum.
A report by PEOPLE detailed how Cronshaw battled extreme nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and weight loss, which left her bedridden with no relief.

Reacting to the news, Adesua took to Instagram Story to express her frustration over the lack of awareness surrounding the condition.
“When I talk about the seriousness of hyperemesis gravidarum, people don’t get it and I hate it,” she wrote.
She also expressed gratitude to her husband, doctors, and loved ones for their support during her difficult pregnancy journey.
“It is not ordinary morning sickness. It is a serious condition that literally affects the quality of your life.”
Hyperemesis gravidarum is more than just pregnancy nausea. It can lead to hospitalisation, extreme weight loss, and mental health struggles if left untreated.
Medical experts warn that the condition often leaves women feeling isolated, weak, and mentally drained, increasing the risk of anxiety and depression.
