AMAA Announces Nominations For 2016–See List Below

The AMAA nomination list for its 12th edition series was announced yesterday evening, at the Protea Hotel- Ikeja, Lagos. The announcement was made by Shaibu Husseini, the President of this year’s AMAA jury. The AMAA nomination list for its 12th edition series was announced yesterday evening, at the Protea Hotel- Ikeja, Lagos.

The announcement was made by Shaibu Husseini, the President of this year’s AMAA jury.

Husseini announced the nominations in 26 categories at a media event yesterday noting that AMAA received over 420 films from filmmakers across 25 African countries of which 250 feature films and eight short films were nominated by the jury.

However, competing for the best film slot are Dry (Nigeria), Ayanda (South Africa), Tell Me Sweet Something (South Africa), The Cursed One (Ghana), Fifty (Nigeria), Eye of the Storm (Burkina Faso), La Pagne (Niger) and Behind Closed Doors (Morocco), he said.

Husseini also disclosed that AMAA received nominations from Cape Verde, Gambia, Morocco, Uganda, Togo, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cameroun, Mali, Ethiopia, Niger, Kenya, Algeria and Egypt, including Nigeria and expressed satisfaction about the quality of the films.

In his words:

“We are very happy about the quality of works that came into the competition this year and it gladdens our heart that every year the objectives of the awards are being achieved with film makers in Africa and beyond upping their game,” said Husseini.

This year’s (AMAA) is scheduled to hold on June 11, in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

The AMAA is an African Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA. The awards aim at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture. The award presentation is attended by numerous media executives, celebrities, politicians, journalists, actresses and actors from all across the world. The AMA awards are widely considered to be Africa’s most important film event and the most prestigious film award in Africa.The 2016 ceremony is scheduled to hold on 11th June 2016 and will take place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State – Nigeria. AMAA was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and run through the Africa Film Academy.
