Did Justin Bieber Cancel His Tour For God?

Justin Bieber cancelled the remaining of his Purpose World tour concerts due to unforeseen circumstances. He was seen relaxing near Santa Monica beach shortly after announcing his tour cancellation. Bieber’s world tour for his fourth album Purpose began in March 2016 and his concerts grossed $163.3 million last year. Last week, he was banned by the Beijing Bureau from performing in China for “bad behaviour”, even though he has been trying to turn over a new leaf after this album.

Speculation has it that he canceled his tour to focus on God and start a church, but the Canadian singer has denied these allegations stating simply: ‘You already know the reason.’ However, he has shown signs in the past few years that point to this action, turning his life around and going from hard-partying and getting into trouble with the law, to being a hit-making A-lister.

Bieber’s Christian faith had been on growing over the last few months, and this is not a surprise as he has often referenced religion in his work and at shows.

There was the time in May 2015 that he posted a quote from the Bible on his Instagram page a photo of himself reading a book with the caption:

“Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked – Psalms 43. I’m not religious nor do I think I have ANYTHING figured out. That’s why I call out on God to help me through what I can’t do on my own. Developing my relationship with God has been the coolest thing I’ve experienced, to know that I’m not alone and I don’t have to live in fear.”

He broke down in tears and prayed after his well-received MTV VMA performance in August 2015. He had done a similar thing at the same event earlier in 2011.

Bieber admitted that he lost sight of what was important and what his life was meant for, but now he wants his life to be exemplary of Christ. “Now I’ve found my purpose, because I do have a platform, and there’s so much I can do for the world and use my music to bring that hope and light.”

During his concert for the Purpose tour in Paris, France, in September 2016, Bieber played an acoustic version of the worship song “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever”, surprising his fans as he strummed his guitar to the popular hymn. The surprise performance had fans swaying along with their phone flashlights raised high.

In an interview on The Bert Show in January 2016, he revealed that a higher power helped turn his life around, saying:

“God was telling me something. I am not going to go into detail of what I was doing and where I was at, but I was pretty lost and woke up one day and felt like God was telling me something.”

In May 2016, Bieber stated that he listened to worship music frequently, saying “No Longer Slaves” by Jonathan and Melissa Helser of Bethel Music gave him peace.

Bieber used his growing faith to minister to the English at the “One Love Manchester” concert last month, after the terror attacks in Manchester and on London Bridge. He said:

“God is good in the midst of the darkness. God is good in the midst of the evil. God is in the midst no matter what’s happening in the world, God is in the midst, and He loves you and He’s here for you.”

Bieber loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks them for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over the last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run. However, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will, of course, be refunded at the point of purchase.
