Four Revolutionary Nigerians Advocating For Positive Change

There is an importance in self-reliance and liberty. From our upbringing as Nigerians, especially with education and our competitive spirit, we find people acting on their own and making their own choices individually. However, as much as every individual is important, we also recognise that there is strength in numbers.

In the strife for positive change in Nigeria, Guardian Life has met with four spectacular individuals making waves in their various industries. Ayodeji Osowobi, Olumide Idowu, Seyi Oluyole and Timi Olagunju have seen the good and the bad sides of society and have chosen to be part of the solutions to remove the bad while, at the same time, enhancing the good that their communities offer.

After surviving a terrible rape incident that made her question her actions, Ayodeji Osowobi found hope in Stand To End Rape (STER), a non-profit organisation that advocates against sexual violence and supports rape survivors with psychosocial services.

Olumide Idowu found himself researching into environmental sustainability after he was confronted by a colleague who taught him about waste management; he started an online advocacy platform, Climate Wednesday, to amplify the voice of young people in the areas of health, education and environment.

After experiencing life in a slum, Seyi Oluyole committed herself to bringing life and hope to children in communities covered by poverty and despondency through her NGO, Dream Nurture Foundation.

Much of Timi Olagunju’s work, especially through his foundation, Youth In Motion, is intended to provide access to young Nigerians, including aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs, and to engage in first-hand tours and training on law-making, advocacy, and public governance.

Pick up a copy of the Guardian Life magazine tomorrow to read about these four advocates, their lives and their commitment to being a light for others.
