Marvel and Fox’s new show The Gifted is about a young family with classic X-Men characters on the run from the government seeking to capture mutants in America.

For those who are familiar with the X-Men, whether from watching the movies or reading comics, you will be familiar with the storyline about mutants being a feared, misunderstood minority.

But this series is first and foremost a story about a family being forced to drop everything and start running from their lives, not just about superheroes fighting to protect innocent people.

Fox revealed very little about The Gifted before the premiere on Monday. But from the little they’ve shown, it is safe to not expect heroes or villains like Wolverine, Storm, Magneto and mystique to be on the show. In the first trailer for the show, one of the characters said:

The X-Men, the Brotherhood we don’t even know if they exist anymore.”

So far, it has received ratings that shows a promising start. It currently has a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
