Cassper Nyovest: “I Wish I Was From Nigeria”
Over the weekend, award-winning South African rapper, Cassper Nyovest took to his Twitter account to praise the unity in the Nigerian music industry.
According to the “Sweet and Short” rapper, he likes the way Nigerian artists promote and celebrate one another as well as the Nigerian culture around the world.
In a tweet he wrote:
“I wish I was from Nigeria. Won’t even lie. I wish I was from Nigeria too. The love they have for thier own artists, the way they celebrate their culture, 90% local content on radio and Tv, there way they celebrate their music no matter where they are in the world, the unity within their industry. A DREAM!
He continued to talk about his admiration for the love Nigerians have for their own artistes, the way the culture is celebrated and love for local content by Nigerians all over the world. In another tweet he continued,
“Nigeria has all the genres we have but they push Afrobeats. What’s wrong with me riding for SA hip hop cause it got me here? I have supported every genre in SA, Come on big bro. I hate these back and forths on Twitter. Rather call me if you wanna discuss this.”
As expected his Nigerian fanbase began to shower praises and love on him by letting him know that he does not need to be Nigerian for them to support him. They went on to praise his talent as a rapper and assured him that he is doing well for himself and will continue to do so.
In reaction to one of his fan’s, Nyovest used the recent support that BET award-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy got from fellow Nigerian artists and Nigerians as a whole when he dropped his “African Giant” album. On this, he wrote:
“Inspiring how they are moving. One unit, taking over the world!”
Taking to Twitter to seemingly reacts to Nyovest post, his fellow South African rapper and one time enemy, AKA, appeared to take a swipe at him for showing his support for the Nigerian music industry. AKA wrote:
“You wish you were whaaat?! F**k outta here bruv!!!”
Nyovest has also made it known that he plans to start building his Nigerian fan base once again.
