Tiyan Alile is a very interesting woman to meet. Alile’s profile boasts amazing titles like Executive Chef at Tarragon, founder of the Culinary Academy and president of the Culinary Arts Practitioners Association in Nigeria. But all this doesn’t remove from her down to earth nature and the effortless grace with which she shows her mastery of the art of fine dining.

Stepping into her teaching space at the Culinary Academy and Tarragon in Ikoyi shows you a space that is designed to create an ambience that was both soothing and aesthetically pleasing. There are beautiful paintings, an array of empty wine bottles by a window refracting light in the most elegant fashion and a lovely grand piano.

Every equipment and utensil sits in its proper place and you cannot help but wonder how one woman can balance a strong artistic inclination with proper structure and attention to detail.

In the spirit of the forthcoming International Women’s Day, Alile covers Guardian Life magazine tomorrow, so be sure to pick up a copy from all vendor stands nationwide.
