The Senate Committee Chairman on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions told reporters in Ilorin, yesterday that Nigeria, as a leading light in Africa, could not afford to be lethargic on the NATFORCE issue.

According to Chapter VI Article 24 of ECOWAS Treaty, every member state is expected to establish NATFORCE through regulations or legislation for prevention, management of resolution of conflict and keeping peace and security with the enforcement of the decision of the Conference of Heads and Government on December 10, 1999.

Beside the enactment, the treaty instructed member states to allocate a budget line to ensure an effective functioning of National Commissions.
