13 arrested with tramadol, others in Lagos, Kano

Between May 6 and May 10, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested no fewer than 13 suspects with hard drugs in Lagos and other states across the country.

Two of these suspects were arrested with 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol and nitrozepam on Thursday at Oja Amukoko in Ijora, a suburb of Lagos.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed the details of these arrests in a statement.

The two suspects arrested with Tramadol in Lagos were identified as Eze Chekube Emmanuel and Ike Samuel Chinyerem.

Similar arrests made across the country

Emmanuel and Chinyerem were not the only suspects arrested with illicit substances that week.

Babafemi further noted that similar arrests were made in Niger, Kaduna, Kwara and other states.

On May 7, a fuel truck marked ABJ 693 XU and three other vehicles loaded with 246 bags of skunk, a strain of cannabis with a combined weight of 3, 047 kilograms along Suleja-Kaduna road in Niger.

Four suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

Babafemi identified them as Christopher Onyema, Benedict Etineruba Young, Chukwudi Ujue Jerry, and

Mohammed Abdullahi Danasabe, all between the ages of 30 and 54.

In Kaduna State, 52.5kg of skunk was recovered from two suspects: Lukman Sabo Umar and Tukur Ammadu, in a bus at Gwantu, Sanga LGA, Kaduna State on Tuesday. The two suspects are 23 and 20 years old, respectively.

No fewer than 45,400 pills of tramadol 225mg were recovered from another suspect, Rufai Nasiru, along the Bode Saadu- Jebba expressway, Kwara State, on Monday.

In Bauchi, Isaac Onogure and Ikechukwu Peter were arrested while attempting to transport 526 blocks of skunk weighing 505kg along the Bauchi-Gombe road on Tuesday.

That same day, 1.1kg of Loud consignment concealed in a pillow coming from Thailand was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at a courier company in Lagos.

In addition to these arrests, two suspects, Hafizu Isa Uman, 34, and Ismail Shehu, both aged 34 and 48, were arrested after NDLEA operatives raided their hideout in Rijiyar Zaki area of Kano on Saturday.

A total of 31 kegs containing 775 litres of codeine syrup were recovered from them.
