A volunteer group under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected the impending defection of former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the ruling party.
Instead, the group under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress Youth and Students Council vowed to deliver more than two million votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Led by Yahya Usman Kabo, the group believed that rather than jostle for Kwankwaso, President Tinubu should build confidence in the leadership of Abdullahi Abbas, two sitting senators, and federal lawmakers to deliver Kano to the APC.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Kabo insisted that Kwankwaso has no political value to add to the loud ovation APC has already garnered under the national leadership of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje.
According to the group, Kwankwaso’s return would rather bring no benefit to the party, either directly or indirectly, given his clear political decline.
“The NNPP in Kano is facing massive defection from its significant pillars. Majority of the key elemental figures that brought it to power in the 2023 general election have long dumped the movement and joined the ruling APC in Kano. Hence, we believe Kwankwaso’s political relevance has come to an end.
“He now seeks political refuge by any means, knowing that only the APC could provide him cover. But the APC is not a refuge organisation, nor is it seeking the likes of Kwankwaso, whose presence could only disrupt the unity and progress of the party.
“Among the defectors are the current serving senator representatives Kano South, Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who, beyond doubt, NNPP cannot win elections without them in the party.”
Kabo said that APC has successfully resolved all its past internal rifts and is fully focused on the task ahead, adding that NNPP is at the brink of collapse in Kano.
