A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Amobi Ogah, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to probe the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Nkiruka Onyejoicha, over the alleged forgery of polling unit results of his constituency.
Ogah, who represents Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia, in a letter to the national chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, accused the minister of dragging the name of INEC in the mud by creating the impression that she was wrongly declared the loser of the election for the seat in the 2023 poll.
Ogah particularly accused Onyejoicha of procuring fake results of 63 polling units that seemingly had INEC certification on them, despite the fact that the ICT Unit of INEC in Abuja denied knowledge of the results procured and tendered at the Election Tribunal.
The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, charged INEC to investigate and prosecute Onyejoicha as an electoral offender.
He further stated that the Court of Appeal, in its judgment, gave credence to the fact that the results tendered by Onyejoicha were not the authentic INEC polling unit results, thereby affirming his position that the results presented by her were fake and forged.
The lawmaker thereby threatened to not only escalate his demand to the court of public opinion and other relevant agencies of government, but will equally seek an order of mandamus against INEC to enforce the request should it fail to commence action timeously.
“It is my hope and prayer that this matter will be thoroughly investigated in the interest of our electoral system,” he stressed.
