3 killed in fuel tanker accident at Zuba
Mr Mutar Chowi, the unit Commander of commission, Chowi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zuba that the accident took place at the Zuba flyover on Monday while the driver was making a phone call.
The unit commander cautioned drivers to desist from making calls while driving their vehicles.
“It is highly unfortunate that commercial drivers, official drivers of government functionaries and highly placed people in the society are not obeying the rule of not making calls while driving,” he said.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity, told NAN that he saw the driver making a call while driving.
“When the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle, it caught fire and many vehicles were burnt beyond recognition,’’ he said.
According to the eyewitness, nine other vehicles were involved in the accident.
He also said that the tanker driver and two roadside mechanics were among the dead.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin-Giri, who visited the scene, expressed sadness over the accident.
Jibrin-Giri advised residents, especially those operating along the roadside to move 120 metres away from the mainroad, to avoid such incidents.
NAN learnt that the injured victims were rushed to Suleja General Hospital in Niger State for treatment.
