
• Kano governor receives recommendations, to announce new wage structure
Abia State Government has said that it would begin paying the new N70,000 minimum wage to its workers starting in October 2024.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this, yesterday, during a media briefing, following Monday’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu said the decision underscores the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers in the state.
RELATEDLY, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants and entrenching a new wage structure in the state.
Yusuf gave the commitment yesterday, when he received the report of the committee set up to review and recommend appropriate minimum wage structure.
The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed strong confidence in the committee’s work, acknowledging their thorough research and wide consultations.
He said that their recommendations would help the government to implement policies that are both economically-viable and sustainable.
Yusuf, who reassured the civil servants of his administration’s dedication to fulfilling the promises made during the campaign, particularly with regard to improving their welfare, called for patience as the government carefully reviews the committee’s recommendations to ensure they comply with constitutional guidelines.
He further said that the final decision on the report would be made public next week.
