Fed Govt will address concerned areas in #EndSARS reports, says Adesina

A group the Access to Justice (A2J) has called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, for showing wanton and brazen contempt for the lives of young Nigerians lost during the #EndSARS protests.

It also urged the Lagos State Government to prosecute all the soldiers who carried out such premeditated violence against unarmed protesters, particularly Lt.-Col. S.O. Bello of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, who led the military contingent to the Lekki Toll-Gate.

In a statement jointly signed by its Convener, Joseph Otteh and Project Director, Deji Ajare, the body applauded the Lagos State Government for keeping faith with its responsibilities by setting up the judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the incident.

The A2J also commended the panel for undertaking the assignment diligently and making findings that bring clarity about what transpired at the Lekki Toll-Gate on October 20, 2020.

“Now, the Federal Government must urgently set up a mechanism to implement the recommendations of the report to give a sense of justice and closure to the victims and families of the deceased,” they urged.

The group also urged the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Farouk Yahaya, to order an immediate inquiry into the conduct of soldiers who took part in the shooting of unarmed protesters.

MEANWHILE, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said that the Federal Government would only address the areas of concern to it in the #EndSARS reports.

Adesina, who stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Breakfast Programme, Sunrise Daily, yesterday, said the Federal Government is awaiting the White Paper report.

He said the areas that concern the state would be left for the state, while those with federal nature would be handled by the Federal Government.

He said he was not sure if some states had submitted their reports to the Federal Government.

Areas of #EndSARS report that affect FG will be addressed, says Adesina
