THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state has suspended former governorship candidate of the party, Comrade Tony Nwoye and some of his close political confidants from the party for a period of two years.

The newly elected state chairman of the party, Prince Ken Emeakayi in his maiden media interview in Awka yesterday, told journalists that he has strong evidence that Nwoye and his co-travelers had concluded arrangements to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) but swore to destabilize the PDP before leaving.

Emeakayi listed others who have been fired from the party to include Kenneth Arinze, Basil Ejidike, Chuba Oranusi and Dr Tony Mcfoy Akachukwu, among others. They are to remain suspended for two years, during which they would not hold any party office.

He lamented that the guidelines were affected somewhat negatively with the emergence of Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike as State Secretary as he was found not to have been a full member of the party for up to two years as specified in the PDP constitution, except he obtained a waiver.

But he was not granted any waiver, hence his replacement recently by Mr John Okigbo, also from the same area with him, as per Chapter 6:47(6) of the party’s constitution.

According to Emeakayi, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had set up Congress Appeal Committee alongside the Congress Committee, but no protest or appeal against any aspect of it was received and at the end of the day the outcome of the congresses were ratified.

When taken up on the manipulation argument and overbearing shadow and imprimatur of the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in the whole set up, as raised by the Tony Nwoye faction which incidentally has strong PDP members and stakeholders, the chairman said, “the problem is that there are people who want to be in the ruling party at the centre always. And they have already perfected how to defect now.
