Director General of the campaign organisation of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fanning the embers of discord among Nigerians.

Abdul-Azeez also accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) of dragging the country back to the politics of the First Republic, when Nigerians where split along religious, tribal and regional lines.

He said it is unfortunate that the presidential candidates: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC), Peter Obi (LP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (NNPP) and Atiku Abubakar (PDP) have not demonstrated enough will to galvanise the support of Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic and religious leanings, to reposition the country for greatness.

Abdul-Azeez, who is the spokesperson of the Coalition of Northern Groups, enjoined the electorate to cast their votes wisely.

He said: “We need peace and education, and we need to value human life and respect one another.

“As the 2023 fresh round of general elections draw closer, Nigerians can see that major political parties in the contest have inadvertently taken the dangerous contours that led to the events of 1966, which laid the foundation for the collapse of the First Republic and the setting in of regional, religious and tribal hatred, jealousies and distrust.

“This they have done by reincarnating the process of presenting presidential candidates that tend to tilt towards a heated struggle for political ascendancy, solely for regional, tribal and even religious domination, and not for the unity and reintegration of a people and a nation desperately in need of leadership. This, without doubt, is a recipe for disaster and greater conflict.”
