In a bid to strengthen security operations and consolidate recent gains in Southern Taraba, the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have inaugurated a new Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari Local Government Council.
The new base was officially flagged off on Thursday by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, who described the development as a strategic step aimed at enhancing the army’s operational effectiveness in the region.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Brigadier General Uwa emphasised that the establishment of the FOB underscores the military’s renewed commitment to stabilising the area and curbing security threats.
Addressing troops stationed at the base, he charged them to remain disciplined, professional, and vigilant in their duties.
He further urged them to safeguard military infrastructure and maintain a dominant presence in the region to deter banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality.
“The troops must dominate their area of responsibility and ensure that bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements are denied any freedom of action,” he said.
As part of the inauguration, Brigadier General Uwa was observed leading a confidence-building patrol across Wukari town and its surrounding communities, aimed at reinforcing the army’s presence and fostering trust with the local population.
According to him, the new base is part of wider efforts to maintain peace in conflict-prone areas nationwide.
The facility, as reported by The Guardian, is expected to significantly enhance rapid response capabilities, bolster intelligence gathering, and strengthen civil-military relations in the region.
