Be patient with Buhari, Oyebola urges Nigerians
THE Chairman, Movement for Nigeria’s Total Transformation (MNTT), Chief Areoye Oyebola, at the weekend advised Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari in his anti-corruption crusade.
Oyebola said he was optimistic that the President would balance the perceived lopsided appointments subsequently.
He spoke while receiving the family of Nigeria’s first federal Minister of Social Services and Natural Resources cum former opposition leader in the old Western Region House of Assembly, Alhaji Adegoke Adelabu, popularly known as ‘Penkelemesi’.
Oyebola enjoined Nigerians to overlook the mistakes that Buhari might have committed in the appointments he has made so far in a bid to ensure sanity in the polity.
According to him, the two options before Nigerians to stop the endemic corruption in the country are President Buhari and a revolution like the one led by the former Ghanaian President, Jerry Rawlins in 1979 in which many of the country’s leaders perceived to be corrupt were killed.
“We must support him, pray for him and overlook his mistakes because he is a human being. We must ensure that he fights this corruption to a logical end. Nigeria is so endowed by providence that nobody should be poor. But studies have shown that 110 million Nigerians are living in abject poverty. Why must that be?
“The crusade he has embarked on against corruption is a much needed one. It doesn’t matter whose ox is gored. We have to fight corruption because it can kill Nigeria. Corruption in this country is so mindless, monumental and outrageous. If President Buhari succeeds, it is a great thing for Nigeria. If he doesn’t succeed, the alternative is a revolution like the one spearheaded in Ghana by J.J Rawlins. That is why Buhari must succeed in his anti-corruption crusade.”
Oyebola, however, described Adelabu as a leader who achieved amazing testimonies as an extraordinarily brilliant, intelligent, unparalleled master of political wizardry, and one of the greatest and most innovative achiever in history.
The visit was ahead of the centenary post-humous birthday for Adelabu slated for September 3, 2015 at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape in Ibadan, where Adegoke Adelabu Foundation and a book written by Adelabu in 1952: ‘Africa in Ebullition,’ will be launched. He was born September 3, 1915 and died on March 25, 1958.
One of Adelabu’s children, Mrs. Adedoyin Adelabu, a retired banker, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked Oyebola for the reception and promised that the family would uphold Adegoke Adelabu as a great heritage.
