Buhari commissions rebuilt Enugu passports zonal command complex

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the newly reconstructed Nigeria Immigration, (NIS), Zonal Command Complex and passports office in Enugu, which was torched down just after it was built, during the #ENDSARS protest that turned violent after being hijacked by hoodlums.

Commissioning the complex in Enugu yesterday, Buhari described the complex as one of the massive edifices of the NIS and reiterated that government is committed to providing conducive work environment for the nation’s workforce because it is a critical factor in boosting productivity.

Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said “contemporary realities point clearly to the fact that conducive work environment is a huge and critical factor to productivity.”

The president recalled how the newly built office complex was attacked and damaged by arsonists during the #ENDSARS nationwide protests but expressed delight that the complex has been reconstructed with support from some illustrious citizens of the state.

“The minimum facility you can provide for a man who bears arms is not only a place of safety, but also a workplace environment where his best performance can be easily harnessed,” he added.

Also, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, said the agency had earlier set a target to build and commission at least two new command office buildings every year.

He said the commissioning of the Enugu command complex brings the total number of command complexes built and delivered by the NIS to eleven, in fulfilment of the target.

Babandede called on officers of the command to make good use of the building adding that the NIS is retooling all its processes and procedures for enhanced service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Enugu state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, said the commissioning of the complex was a show of the strong resolve of the president to show good leadership.

Represented by his deputy governor, Cecilia Ezeilo, he said “the Buhari-led administration has demonstrated strong commitment and leadership.

The Enugu state command building was earlier slated for commissioning on the 24th of October 2020, but was torched by arsonists during the #ENDSARS nationwide protests on the 22nd of October 2020, just two days earlier.
