CDS inaugurates military monitoring team to boost oil production
The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, in a bid to enhance Nigeria’s crude oil production, has directed troops of the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy to increase production from 1.35 million to 2.2 million barrels per day by December 2024.
General Musa issued this directive while inaugurating members of the Defence Joint Monitoring Team at the 6 Division, Nigerian Army Headquarters in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday. He tasked the team with collaborating with all security agencies and critical stakeholders to eradicate oil bunkering and related crimes in the Niger Delta.
The CDS emphasised that the primary objective of the task force is to strengthen security, boosting crude oil production in the region. Although the team had already commenced operations in the area, General Musa officially inaugurated them to continue their assignments.
This move, he said, is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s oil production, generating increased revenue for the country and bolstering its economy.
He said that the military’s involvement is to address the security challenges hindering oil production in the region and ensure a stable and secure environment for oil operations.
He said: “For the past weeks, we have been working to improve security and production of crude oil within the oil-producing areas. Today, we inaugurated the Defence Joint Monitoring Team and we will also inaugurate the Defence Joint Infusion Centre.
