Celebrities Walk Against Rape

IN support of the ongoing fight against rape in the country, top celebrities have indicated interest to join other concerned Nigerians from different sector for the sixth edition of the Walk Against Rape campaign. The walk starts from the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church ground and ends at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Scheduled for March 10, notable among celebrities, who have confirmed participation are Mercy Aigbe, Toke Makinwa, Toolz, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Bolanle Olukanni, Adekunle Gold, Harrysong, Kcee, Oc Ukeje, Joseph benjamin, Annie Idibia, Desmond Elliot, Femi Adebayo and MI. Others include Ice Prince, Kehinde Bankole, Ini Edo, Susan Peters, Seyi Law, Dayo Amusa, Japheth Omojuwa, Olorisupergal, Niniola, Immaculate, Gbemi, Azuka Ogujiuba, Illbliss and Chidinma. Comedians Mc Shakara, Senator, Funny Bone, Ajebo, Pencil and Akpororo will also be part of the walk.

According to the National Coordinator of the campaign, Esther Ijewere- Kalejaiye, the walk aims at creating awareness and lending a voice to sexually abused persons, particularly women and children in the society.

“Our aim is to help in encouraging victims to speak out and reduce the stigmatisation attached to the victims of sexual abuse and rape as well as use the platform to inform the society about the soaring scourge of sexual abuse especially as it relates to young girls and women in general.

An initiative of Rubies Ink for women and children and supported by Access Woman, Printivo, Sweet Sensation & Etana bottle water, the walk, which starts in Lagos, will be held in Ondo, Edo, Delta and Oyo State this year as well.
