Following the devastating impacts of funding cuts by the United States government to donor agencies, the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) is offering a lifeline to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in dire need of funding.
Announcing the grant under the NGOs Support Initiative (NSI) of the centre in Abuja, founding member and Executive Director, dRPC, Dr. Judith Ann-Walker, noted with concern that thousands of local NGOs have had to cancel high-impact activities since January 2025 in response to the recent funding cuts.
She explained that locally registered NGOs, that have had to suspend activities on gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, school safety for girls, women’s health, gender-based violence and social justice, are the ones to be considered for the support.
She said: “The NGO Support Initiative is an initiative of the dRPC to respond to the challenges NGOs are facing now. Local non-governmental organisations are finding it extremely difficult due to the funding cuts that have just descended upon all of us in the field sector, in the NGO sector. It’s a phenomenon that we have no control over”.
“Funds have been cut, donor agencies are reducing funding, and this is not just an immediate thing, this is an initiative and this is a response that is consistent with what we have been doing for years, over 30 years.”
