Yusuf in Morocco to attract investments, partnerships
Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, Kano, yesterday granted applications to Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and four others seeking to join as respondents in a suit to stop Kano local government allocation.

The new respondents include the Nigeria Union of Teachers, National Medical and Health Workers, and elected council chairmen, who have been listed as 55th, 56th, 57th, 58th and 59th defendants after the court declared re-amendment of the process.

In suit No. FHC/KN/CS/425/2025, filed by the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State chapter, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, one Aminu Aliyu Tiga and APC as plaintiffs, they are seeking the relief of the court to stop further release of federal allocations to Kano LGs in furtherance to its earlier judgment.

The plaintiffs had sued 55 entities, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); FAAC; Accountant General of the Federation; Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission; Attorney General of the Federation; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State; Kano State government, Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), and the 44 local councils.

Counsel to NULGE, Sabiu Samani Lawal, had argued the urgent need not to join the matter with the plaintiffs, noting that the livelihood of his clients would suffer should the monthly FAAC allocation be suspended.

At the resumed hearing yesterday, counsel to the plaintiffs, Abdul Fagge (SAN), drew the attention of the court to a motion on notice moved by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), counsel to Kano State, seeking a stay of proceeding in the matter, pending the determination of Court of Appeal on a related subject matter.

Reacting to the application, counsel to Attorney General, Kano State, Chief Femi Falana (SAN), said he would not oppose the motion since the outcome of the decision of the Court of Appeal would determine the fate of the matter.

MEANWHILE, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has visited the Kingdom of Morocco on a strategic working trip to attract foreign direct investments and foster bilateral partnerships for the state’s economic development.

The disclosure was in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kano. The visit, which focuses on key areas of collaboration, would see the governor engage with top Moroccan government officials and industry stakeholders on agricultural mechanisation, fertiliser production, sustainable energy, and the creative industry – particularly Islamic-driven filmmaking.
