Customs intercepts Tramadol worth N3.5billion


The Nigeria Customs Service, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command, intercepted unregistered pharmaceutical products, suspected to be tramadol tablets whose Duty Paid Value (DPV) is worth N3,556,802,942.

Comptroller Sanni Yusuf, the Customs Area Controller, disclosed this during a media briefing on Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

According to Yusuf, the items exceeded the approved threshold set by the Federal Government.

He revealed that the Service recorded impressive revenue of N74,286,707,443.01 from January to October 2023.

Highlighting the Command’s activities during this period, he said the revenue collected exhibits a significant increase of N14,230,581,619.72, marking a 23% surge compared to the same period in 2022, where the revenue was N60,056,125,823.29″.

He stated that the Command has achieved 76.34% of its annual target, crediting this success to the officers’ dedication to compliance with import/export guidelines and existing laws.

Regarding stakeholder engagement, he commended the Command’s open-door policy, resolving various issues with concerned stakeholders.
