Customs warns against cyber sabotage

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned against attempts to compromise its digital infrastructure, describing such acts as economic sabotage that will not be tolerated.

Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi issued the warning at a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at the Apapa Area Command.

The meeting brought together industry players to address challenges in the maritime sector and improve cargo clearance processes.

Adeniyi disclosed that over the weekend, there were several failed attempts by individuals to infiltrate the service’s system in a bid to disrupt operations.

“The whole idea was to render our system inefficient. Such nefarious acts constitute economic sabotage, which we will not spare. On our part, we will continue to strengthen our firewalls to prevent future downtimes,” he said.

The CGC reaffirmed that the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), codenamed B’Odogwu, remains a policy direction that is irreversible.

He assured stakeholders that while issues may arise, the service remains committed to dialogue and collaboration to resolve them.

The NCS engagement concluded with an interactive session, during which stakeholders shared their concerns and pledged support for achieving efficiency and transparency in maritime trade facilitation.
