‘Descendants’ Honour Mary Slessor
Mary Slessor Memorial and Heritage Foundation and her adopted daughters are set to launch a new foundation in her honour.
This was disclosed by the foundation during a courtesy visit to the Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ), yesterday, where it disclosed that the purpose of the launch is to keep the memory and efforts of the Scottish missionary, who fought tirelessly to stop killings of twins in Calabar and nearby states alive.
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Adim Gabriel, said the idea was to immortalise her and support vulnerable children in the state, saying state government, international agencies and individuals, as well as stakeholders should take advantage of the programme to support the foundation.
He said: “Mary Slessor Memorial and Heritage Foundation is an initiative of true descendants of Mary Mitchell Slessor, the Scottish missionary who came into Nigeria, precisely Cross River State to do very wonderful works that have become a reference point. ”
“Mary Slessor memorial and heritage foundation will be officially launched on December 12, 2019.”
In his response, the ACROJ Chairman, Comrade Darlington Edem, lauded the initiative, adding that the association will give her total support to the foundation to ensure it is a success.
Earlier, Jean Mc. Arthur Slessor and Nee Barbara Slessor, both grand children of late elder Daniel Henryson Mc Arthur Slessor, an adopted son of the Scottish missionary, journeyed on a memory lane on how their late grandfather was saved and adopted by Mary Mitchell Slessor on her missionary expedition to Calabar and beyond.
