IGP deploys tactical squads
The Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has blamed state failure for the recent attacks in Benue and Plateau States. In a Facebook post yesterday, Dickson condemned the killings, describing the incidents as “dastardly and callous massacres.”
The former governor, in his condolence message, said states like Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, and Southern Kaduna have been repeatedly subjected to “criminality, lawlessness, and brutality in a genocidal magnitude.”
“Not only are armed gunmen terrorising and ransacking hapless communities, and committing mass murders in these states, but the level of banditry, kidnapping, and killing has affected many other states as well, almost to the point of eclipsing the Boko Haram insurgency that bedevilled the Northeastern part of our country years ago,” he added.
The lawmaker called for urgent intervention from the federal government, saying the security situation has reached a level that requires an honest national conversation.
ALSO, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of assets and tactical squads to the communities affected by the recent massacre in the Bokkos council area of Plateau State.
A statement yesterday by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, is leading and coordinating the critical intervention with significant reinforcement.
According to Adejobi, the reinforcements include additional units of highly trained tactical personnel, state-of-the-art drones for enhanced surveillance, armoured personnel carriers, units of Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialised platoons from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The IGP clarified: “These resources will be strategically deployed to conduct special operations aimed at effectively curbing the incessant attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities, which have tragically resulted in the loss of innocent lives.”
