NIGERIAN-FUEL-STATIONAs fuel scarcity in Minna and its environs bites harder, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed off seven filling stations in Minna, the Niger State capital for selling the commodity above pump price.

Officials of the DPR, led by the Niger State Operation Controller, shut the stations on Monday Engineer Abdullahi Jankara during their routine operation.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Water Board has said that it has completed repair of existing water pumping facilities across the state to ensure adequate water supply to the people.

The board’s General Manager, Alhaji Hassan Muhammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that Governor Abubakar Bello was passionate about providing portable water for the people.

According to Muhammad, this is why we embarked on repairs and maintenance of our pumping machines, electrical motors, generators and electrical panels.

Muhammad said the job carried out on the facilities across 70 water works in the state lasted between September and October.

He explained that obsolete machines caused inadequate water supply in some cases in the state and dams and lack of water reticulation in some areas due to damaged water pipes. “The last water treatment plant in the state was installed in 1995, while one of the oldest dams that supply water to Bosso treatment plant was established in 1949,” he said.

The Guardian recalls that both business and commercial activities were brought to a halt over the weekend in Minna, the state capital following nonavailability of the commodity as a result of the closure of majority of the filling stations by the marketers to avoid clap down by DPR.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after sealing up the filling stations, the DPR Controller, Engineer Abdullahi warned that it will no longer be business as usual for both independent and major oil marketers in the state involved in any sharp practices.
