The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, on Tuesday, commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his administration’s ongoing crackdown on cult-related activities across the state.
This commendation was part of a six-point communiqué issued at the end of the council’s monthly congress in Benin, the Edo State capital.
The Edo NUJ leadership, led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe, described the initiative as a critical step towards restoring public order and ensuring the safety of residents.
In its deliberations, the congress praised the state government’s commitment to curbing cultism, urging that the momentum be sustained to guarantee lasting peace and sanity in Edo.
On the perennial flooding concerns, the union advised the state government to take proactive steps in preparing for the rainy season, particularly to mitigate the threats of flooding that have recently devastated parts of the country.
Residents in flood-prone areas were also urged to remain vigilant and, where necessary, consider temporary relocation to safer ground.
The congress acknowledged the progress of the ongoing flyover construction at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, but called on the contracting firm to urgently rehabilitate nearby alternative routes to ease the movement of residents during the construction period.
