EFCC arraigns two for hacking reverend’s email, others in Enugu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two men who hacked into the electronic mail (email) of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Ugochukwu Nwachukwu in Enugu.

The duo has been identified as Nwachukwu Chidalu Prosper and Desmond Okoye Chidera.

According to the commission, Prosper and Chidera made use of the electronic mail password of the reverend with the intent to gain advantage for yourselves, a crime contrary to Section 22 (2) (a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) of the same Act.

Prosper pleaded guilty to the offence while Chidera pleaded not guilty.

In a similar development, another suspect, Prince Odinaka Ogbu, was arraigned in the Federal High Court in Enugu for cybercrime.

The EFCC accused him of aiding one Ledata Evans and others at large to commit a felony through the unauthorised modification of computer systems, network data, and system interference in 2024.

Ogbu pleaded not guilty to the offence

The presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, adjourned till June 25, 2025, for the hearing of Ogbu’s bail application.

Prosper and Chidera’s trial was also adjourned till May 21, 2025
