Ekiti police arrest man for alleged sexual assault, impregnating 15-year-old daughter


• Osun police arraign man for allegedly defrauding car buyer

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man,  who allegedly assaulted and impregnated his 15-year-old step daughter.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Moronkeji Adesina,  in a statement signed yesterday, by the Command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu explained that the Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) on Friday,  July 22,  arrested the man identified as Ojo Babatunde of No15, Edugbe Street, Obadore, Omuo- Ekiti for repeatedly assaulting  and impregnating his 15-year-old step daughter.
  
The victim, who is already four months pregnant, claimed that the suspect, Ojo Babatunde, who is also her step-father, had unlawful carnal knowledge of her severally, before and after she became pregnant.
 
She explained that the step-father started assaulting her when her mother gave birth through Caesarean Section (CS) and had to spend about three weeks in the hospital, leaving her and the step father at home.
 
According to her, the step-father used to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her at home when her mother was away and oftentimes lured her into the farm and defiled her after which he will threaten her never to tell anyone or she would face the consequence.
 
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed it was the handwork of the devil.
Adesina added that the suspect would be arraigned in court once the investigation is concluded.

MEANWHILE, Osun State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned a 45-year-old man, Alarape Musibau, before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court, Osogbo, for allegedly defrauding a car buyer to the tune of N600,000.
  
Musibau was arraigned on two-count-charge bordering on fraud and theft.   Police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, accused the defendant of fraudulently obtaining the sum of N600,000 from one Shittu Isiaka under the pretence of buying a car for him in March 2021 at Ibikunle area of Osogbo. 
 
Abiodun said Musibau committed the offences, which are contrary to and punishable under section 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap. 34. Vol.II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
 
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations. His counsel, Abayomi Adedeji urged the court to grant him bail, noting that the offences are bailable.

The Magistrate, A.A Adeyeba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 and one surety in the same amount and adjourned the case to October 26 for mention.
