Ondo sets up joint task force to tackle menace

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has urged Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to strengthen the Western Security Network, code-named Amotekun Corps, to enable the security outfit to deal decisively with criminal elements tormenting the state.

YCE said that strengthening the Amotekun Corps was inevitable to tackle the security challenges in the state urgently. A statement signed and made available to The Guardian in Ibadan by the Secretary-General, Oladipo Oyewole, yesterday, stated: “In view of the security challenges in the state, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) is urging the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to strengthen the Amotekun Corps so as to be able to deal more decisively with issues of insecurity in the state.”

Meanwhile, Ondo State Government has set up a joint task force to tackle the spate of insecurity in the state. Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, at the weekend, emphasised that the move became imperative to ensure optimal security of lives and property across the state.

Adeleye, who spoke while parading some kidnapping suspects at the Corps’ headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, said security agencies were determined to flush out criminals from the state. He appealed to residents to ensure the provision of timely and actionable information.
