• Accuse UK Govt of not condemning killings in 2020
Three years after the #EndSARS protests in Lagos, which turned bloody and resulted in the death of some demonstrators at the Lekki Toll Gate area, activists gathered in front of the Northumberland Avenue office of the Nigerian High Commission, on Friday night, to remember the killings of the young demonstrators.
Organised in solidarity with the #EndSARS United, the Convener and renowned activist, Gbola Owoborode, was just accompanied by two persons throughout the three-hour memorial that started at 6pm.
“It’s necessary for us to mark it and it shows dishonour if we don’t. It means life doesn’t mean much to our people,” Owoborode said, when asked for what it meant to hold the memorial event.
Owoborode and the two others accused the British government of not doing enough to condemn the killings when it occurred in 2020. They said the matter was merely debated in the Parliament and then dumped in Westminster.
One of the three, George, said: “l didn’t see any outrage in Britain,” when the killings occurred .
LoveJusticePeace representative, Julie Obiamiwe, went a step further in accusing the United Kingdom’s government of not having genuine interest in the wellbeing of Nigerians, apart from the cheap labour they get. “The British government doesn’t care,” she said..
