Era of poverty among women is over in Nigeria — Tinubu

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that the era of poverty among women and other vulnerable groups in Nigeria is coming to an end.

Tinubu gave this declaration at an empowerment program held over the weekend in Asaba, the Delta State capital, where she gave out items, including grinding machines, big sky-run chest freezers, mushroom generators, and others, to improve their individual businesses.

Tinubu, represented by the Wife of the Delta State Deputy Governor, Catherine Oyeme, said she was poised to reduce poverty by assisting women because of their roles in nation-building.

“The items distributed aimed to equip women with the necessary tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and to contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.

“Women empowerment is central to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG-5, achieving gender equality and empower all women and girls and SDG-8 on decent work and economic growth, which include economic growth, and sustainable development for all Nigerians, with a particular focus on empowering women economically,” she said.

She urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the resources judiciously to grow their business and serve as a foundation for creating a better life for themselves and their families.

Earlier, the First Lady of Delta State, Tobore Oborevwori, commended Oluremi Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) for empowering 500 industrious businesswomen with essential tools in the state.

Oborevweri, who spoke through the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs. Princess Ajudua, said the nation’s first lady’s empowerment tools will do more than support small-scale businesses and open new doors to financial independence, improved household incomes, food security, and dignified living.

She further noted that the tools will allow the women to expand their trade, access broader markets, and contribute meaningfully to the economic landscape of Delta State and Nigeria.”

“When a woman is empowered, a family is lifted. When a family thrives, the community is strengthened. And when communities grow, the state and nation blossom,” Oborevwori added.
