Ex-Environment Commissioner wants FG to reduce price of kerosene
A former Commissioner of Environment in Sokoto State, Dr Jabbi Kilgori, on Sunday called on the Federal Government to reduce the price of kerosene.
Kilgori said this would greatly boost the ongoing fight against desert encroachment in some northern parts of the country .
He told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto that the rate of desert encroachment in the region was too alarming and called for urgent action.
He said that availability of kerosene and other cooking materials at government controlled rates would deter indiscriminate felling of trees for firewood.
The former commissioner also called for aggressive sensitisation on the benefits of tree planting and the dangers of indiscriminate felling of trees.
He called on traditional rulers to mobilise their subjects on the need to plant economic trees in their surroundings.
Kilgori said the fight against desert encroachment needed the support of all in order to save the nation from desertification.
