THE immediate past Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin, yesterday called for a concerted effort of all the security agencies in the country to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.

Abolurin stated that in view of the incessant attacks of the Boko Haram “and the new dimension in crime, there is need for security agencies to support each other, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.”

The former NSCDC boss, who spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during a send-forth parade organised for him by the State Command of the Corps, insisted that the NSCDC had always been actively involved in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency, disclosing that they had been assisting and supporting the armed forces in curbing the menace.

His words: “The contribution of the Corps is not limited to intelligence gathering alone, we are also actively involved in assisting and supporting the armed forces.

“If you go to Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states, you will see our personnel actively involved in curbing insurgency and to the best of my knowledge, government is trying its best to tackle it, the armed forces are also doing their best.

“What the Boko Haram is doing is a new dimension in crime and terrorism. They (Boko Haram) make it look as if the security agencies are not in charge. They have a funny way of operating in different areas almost at the same time to make it look as if the security agencies are powerless and this is not so.”

Abolurin, who stated that he was happy with his achievements in the NSCDC, insisting that the agency can now compete side by side with other security agencies even outside the country, said: “With the level of training of the personnel of the NSCDC globally, the agency can now compete side by side with other security agencies in the world.”

“We have been in collaboration with other security agencies such as the Army, the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in training and retraining of our personnel.”

Abolurin stated that the public expects nothing short of integrity, diligence and honesty from the agency in effectively carrying out their job.
