Immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Ogun State, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Kola Daisi University, Ibadan (KDU-I), Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, have enjoined students to pursue careers in science, saying humanity cannot do without science and its impacts.
The duo made the call at the second Distinguished Lecture of KDU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences. Schools that participated in the lecture include Maverick College, Samonda; St. Louis Grammar School, Mokola; International School, Bodija; Deeper Life High School, Moniya; Divine Heritage College, Moniya; Dee Private School, Moniya and Christ City Model College, Moniya, all within Ibadan. Babalola, who was the guest lecturer, said everything is about science, and it is the way of life.
The former vice chancellor said the advent of Artificial Intelligence [AI] has made it imperative for students to pursue careers in sciences, and use the knowledge gained to solve problems.
‘’Science is the way of life. Everything we see around us – the basic needs of man, what we eat, breathe, use, and whatever keeps us alive are linked to science. Our very essence of living and keeping a life is based on science.
Now, we are into AI and you will be left behind if you don’t use it.
Students should realise the importance of science, and choose it as a career. Whatever you do, use science to promote it. We must begin to use science to solve problems around us.
Morenikeji, who represented the vice chancellor, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun (SAN) noted that science has become a vital tool for human existence.
