Fed Gov begins N63b electricity project in Imo

The Federal Government has commenced the process of N63 billion-worth of electricity power restoration project in the Imo North (Okigwe) Senatorial Zone of Imo State, after being in darkness for 22 years.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Senator representing the zone at the Senate, Patrick Ndubueze, while briefing his constituents in Okigwe.

Consequently, the people of the zone, comprising Okigwe, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Onuimo, Ihitte Uboma, and Obowo local councils have heaved a sigh of relief.

Ndubueze noted that with his consistent demonstration and commitment to selfless service to his constituents’ needs, he prioritised the restoration of power supply in the zone after it had eluded them for the past 22 years.

He said: “Through my legislative efforts and effective representation, the N63 billion electricity power supply restoration project has commenced by the government after 22 years the good people of Okigwe Senatorial Zone have been in darkness. I will ensure that my representation in the Senate will continue yielding democracy dividends for us and Nigeria at large.”

The senator also informed that the abandoned Amaraku- Umuelemai- Umualumoke Road, which has intersections with many communities and gateways to other cities, was awarded in 2011 and was being revived. While condemning the abandonment of the road, he urged his constituents to be hopeful of its completion.

On the medical area, he disclosed that his efforts have made it possible for the upgrading of the Okigwe General Hospital to a federal medical centre, and the Federal University, Onuimo, adding that the two institutions would create massive jobs for the people of the state and Nigeria in addition to enhanced educational and healthcare needs.

He promised to ensure that the facilities at Umualumoke Medium Correctional Service, Okigwe, would be in place.

He disclosed that about 3,000 youths were exposed to various skills acquisition under his empowerment programme, among others.
