Nigerian youths have been charged to play a critical role in nation-building for the betterment of the country.
Speaking at the 3rd edition of the post-university degree summit (PUDS) 2025 at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, the Senior Special Assistant to the president on citizenship and leadership, Ms. Rinsola Abiola, urged youths to leverage internet and social media for learning, networking, and accessing opportunities.
“I encourage you to use technology to support your growth, with online courses, connecting with mentors, or exploring job opportunities. This will help you live an impactful life and contribute to nation-building,” she said.
“But don’t let excessive social media use derail your focus. There’s a time for everything, and this is your time to gain valuable skills and build a solid foundation for your future.”
Abiola explained that the Renewed Hope administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply committed to supporting young people to fulfill their dreams.
“First, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), an interest-free loan program, was established to support students in tertiary institutions with tuition fees,” she said.
“For those of you who require support, NELFUND can provide the finances you need to advance your education and leadership potential. Secondly, the new National Youth Internship Programme (NYIP), National Talent Export Program (NATEP), the Youth Bank, and many other opportunities are there for young people to take advantage of.”
She stressed that the initiatives were designed to remove barriers and create opportunities for youths to thrive.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, described the summit as a societal engagement, saying that it is an avenue for the students to choose a good mentor.
Kehinde, who was represented by Prof. Olusegun Oguntoke, said the participants have come to acquire skills and knowledge beyond formal education certificates.
