First Lady, Reps donate N140m to Jigawa tanker fire victims

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N40 million and various food items to victims of the tanker explosion which happened on October 16 at Majiya village in Jigawa State.

Also, House of Representatives donated N100 million to the victims of the explosion.

In a statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady, Busola Kukoyi, the donation was presented on behalf of the First Lady by a delegation, led by the wife of House of Representatives Speaker, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, at the Government House in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

Handing over the cheque and food items to the wife of the governor, Hadiza Umar Namadi, the First Lady said she was touched by the plight of the victims and assured the state government of continued support and prayers.

Receiving the money and relief items Governor Umar Namadi expressed assurance to the delegation that the donation would be channeled appropriately to cater for the victims.

House of Representatives Speaker Abbas announced donation of N100 million at the Government House in Dutse, when he led the House delegation to sympathise with the people and government of Jigawa State.

In a statement in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker said they received the news with great shock and dismay but with that total submission to the Almighty Allah.

He said whatever happens to a man is predestined and what they can do as faithful is to pray for the repose of the souls of those who passed away.

“I will like you to know that the House is with you at this period of loss and sorrow; the House is with you in looking for ways and means of preventing future occurrence in Jigawa State and other parts of Nigeria.

“The House is with you in looking for solutions to other major issues bedeviling our region in particular. We are with you in finding succour to those who are affected by this tragedy.”

Over 170 persons have been confirmed dead from the tanker explosion.
