Foundation distributes malaria drugs, nets in Ogun community

In an effort to reduce malaria cases and mortality rates by at least 90% by 2030, the HACEY Foundation and AIICO insurance company have joined forces to fight malaria in a community in Ogun.

HACEY Foundation distributed over 200 insecticide-treated nets, malaria drugs and free malaria treatment.

Speaking at the medical outreach, Bamidele Oyewunmi, the programme team lead, stated that the effort is to ensure all communities become malaria-free.

He stated that pregnant women and nursing mothers are the most vulnerable to malaria, lamenting that over 100,000 persons die of malaria annually.

He noted that to celebrate the 2025 World Malaria Day, the organisations have decided to reinvest in the interventions and programmes that promote healthy living, ensuring that residents are in good health.

He urged the beneficiaries to maintain a clean environment and use insecticide-treated nets effectively to eradicate malaria.

Oyewunmi urged people to check their malaria status regularly, adding that there are always resources to bring malaria cases to zero if people are ready to embrace good health-seeking behaviour.

“It is observed that pregnant women and nursing mothers are the most vulnerable to malaria, and over 100,000 people die of malaria annually. This year’s World Malaria Day, we have decided to reinvest in the interventions and programmes that promote good healthy living and ensure that community people are living in good health,” he said.

“HACEY Foundation and AIICO Insurance have come together to distribute 500 insecticide-treated nets to people; we also provide them with free malaria tests while referring those who are positive to the hospital for free care.

“There are always resources to eliminate malaria to zero level in Nigeria if people are ready to embrace good health-seeking.”

Also speaking at the event, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer Agemo Margaret disclosed that zero malaria cases are achievable with the foundation’s effort and government support.

Agemo posited that malaria cases have reduced due to the efforts of the state government and organisations like the HACEY Foundation.

She further urged the beneficiaries to sleep regularly on the insecticide-treated nets.

They were also discouraged from using them for irrelevant things.
