IN this hot weather, a drink of Sangria may be all you need to have fun-filled relaxation. Sangria is a drink made with fruit juices, soda, spices, and sometimes liquor. This delicious fruit-based wine has its traditional heritage well rooted in Spain.
While Spain is regarded as the creator of sangria, countries all over the globe have adapted the recipe to make a fruit-filled wine beverage that is refreshing and easy to drink with a wide variety of foods. From the varieties of red wine sangrias, to white wine sangrias, and instant sangrias to rosé-based recipes, the drink is sure to be friendly to the palate.
Example is the orange sangria that can be prepared with the recipe below.
1 cup orange juice, strained
1.5 litres rose wine
1/3 cup orange-flavoured liqueur (optional)
1/3 cup sugar
1 orange, halved, very thinly sliced
1 lemon, halved, very thinly sliced
250g strawberries, hulled, thinly sliced
2 cups sparkling mineral water, chilled
3 cups ice cubes
Preparation
Combine orange juice, wine, water, liqueur (if using) and sugar in a large bowl or jug.
Stir to dissolve sugar. Add orange and lemon slices Cover and refrigerate overnight to allow flavours to develop.
