Gombe to spend N150 million on 20th anniversary

Gombe state government is set to spend a whooping 150 Million Naira to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of the state on October 1.State Deputy Governor, Mr. Charles Iliya, who disclosed this in a press briefing yesterday, said the ceremony is to appraise the achievements so far recorded, challenges, as well as project a sustainable development plan for the state.

Gombe state was among the last six states created by the late Sani Abacha on October 1, 1996.The deputy governor, who is also chairman, organising committee for the anniversary, added that the event will further provide the platform to honour sons and daughters of the state, organisations and institutions that played significant roles towards the creation of the state as well as contributing to its development.

As plan of activities to mark the anniversary, Hon. Iliya said the ceremony, which begun with the press briefing, would include among others, special prayers in Churches and Mosque, inspection of projects, and a grand finale on October 1.

He added that the ceremony would also provide an opportunity to appreciate orphans, the sick and inmates “with a view to putting smiles on their faces.”
While appreciating the people of the state for their support, cooperation and belief in the state, Iliya urged them to extend the usual hospitality of the state to invited guests that will grace the occasion.
