‘Govt to make Ajaokuta steel plant top revenue earner’
The minister spoke during his maiden visit to the steel complex at Ajaokuta yesterday with his counterpart Minister for State in the Ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Bwari Bawa.
Fayemi stated that though he was visiting the complex for the first time, he was however impressed by the level of potential that gave hope for the country’s industrialisation 35 years ago.
According to him, “This is a fact-finding mission and the one hour tour cannot give me a full impression on what I have seen here.”
It is the first time that I am visiting Ajaokuta steel plant and it is an impressive sight to behold.
“It is unfortunate that almost 34 to 35 years of its existence when we would have moved from an idea to a practical bedrock of industrialisation of our country, this has not happened.”
He said their focus as a government is that solid minerals would become an alternative revenue earner for the country.
