Group lauds anti-graft drive, urges tighter supervision of projects
An Abuja-based specialised group, Nigerian Oil and Gas Professionals (NOGP), has commended the Federal Government for sparing no one in its ongoing anti-corruption fight. It particularly expressed satisfaction at the reforms in the oil industry.
In a statement at the weekend by its spokesman, Dr. Bestow Menejie, the group said the commendation followed the decisive manner the President Muhammadu Buhari administration handled the alleged contractual infraction involving the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) and Nigerian Content Development and Mon itoring Board (NCDMB) wherein Hyundai Heavy Industries Limited and others were allegedly prevented from participating in the Egina FPSO contract.
It, therefore, urged government to beam searchlight on ongoing projects in the sector to checkmate breaches. The statement read: “We strongly encourage the Federal Government to look into other related agencies, especially the NCDMB, to ensure that similar acts of incompetence and fraud are uprooted immediately.
“It is only with such prudent steps without fear of stepping on toes that future projects can be awarded to only qualified parties leading to successful project implementation in Nigeria.
“If the Buhari administration continues on this path, then more foreign direct investors shall be encouraged to come to Nigeria and invest in an atmosphere of transparency and accountability.”
