Pro confirms hike, says only Registrar has reasons for increase

The University of Ibadan (UI) has increased acceptance fee for newly-admitted students.

According to information obtained from the website of the university, each student is to pay N50,000 as acceptance fee.

“Candidates, who have been offered provisional admission and have generated their admission letters on CAPS are hereby advised to proceed with the payment of a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of N50,000 only,” the institution said.

Meanwhile, a parent, who is also a lecturer at the university, complained bitterly about the increment.

The parent-cum-lecturer said: “It is serious. I have to pay an acceptance fee of N50,000 for my child.”

But when contacted, the Principal Assistant Registrar/Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Public Communication, Mrs. Adejoke Akinpelu, confirmed the hike.

She, however, said only the Registrar could speak on reasons for the increase.

HOWEVER, a group, the Concerned Students’ Against Tuition Fees (CSATF) Movement, has called for the cancellation of the institution’s acceptance fee increase.

The group, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Aduwo Ayodele and Secretary, Kareem Abdullahi, said it found it imperative to unequivocally oppose the decision to charge prospective students into the university, as well as the determined act to hike the same fee from N37,500 to N50,000.

It, therefore, urged the administrators of the university to abide by the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and stop the collection of acceptance fees in the university.
