The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ward 5, Ifon, in Ose Local Council Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
According to sources within the ward, Adepoyigi was kidnapped on Monday evening at the entrance of his house situated along Ifon-Owo Road.
A few hours after the kidnappers struck, they made contact with the family of the victim, demanding a N100 million ransom before he would be released.
With the development creating tension in the agrarian community, residents have decried what they described as incessant security lapses in the axis, particularly communities within Ose and Owo council areas.
While confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command disclosed that security operatives are on the trail of the suspects in order to rescue the victim unharmed.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that they assured the public that every effort is being made to track down the kidnappers and bring them to justice.
He said, “I can confirm to you that the chairman of APC ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo Road.
“Upon receiving the report, the DPO Ifon, in collaboration with hunters, local Vigilante Group members, and Nigerian Army personnel, has launched a manhunt for the suspects.”
