Gunmen killed three people in Ebonyi during carol service
Unknown gunmen stormed the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Nkwegu, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during the Christmas carol service, killing three worshippers and injuring others.
The attack was confirmed by the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Nworie, on Monday.
Bishop Nworie described the incident as “sad and disheartening” and condemned the killing of the three worshippers, offering prayers for their souls and the injured.
According to a source, one of the victims, a popular PoS operator at Nkwuagu Market, was reportedly talking on the phone while leaving the church and as soon as he stepped out of the church, the armed men fatally shot him.
Ebonyi State Police Command is yet to speak on the issue at the time of filing this report.
