Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says his initial intention was to permanently oust Siminalayi Fubara as governor of Rivers state.
Fielding questions from newsmen at a media chat in Abuja on Friday, Wike said President Bola Tinubu saved Fubara from being disgraced out of office by declaring a state of emergency in Rivers.
He expressed his displeasure over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, stressing that he would have preferred an outright removal of the governor as against Tinubu’s decision to suspend Fubara, his deputy, and lawmakers of the Rivers House of Assembly.
“I wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara. The president, by declaring a state of emergency, saved Fubara. “However, people must tell the truth. The governor was gone. He was gone, yes… so when people say the president did this, I say they should be praising him.
The FCT Minister also wondered why Fubara has not reached out to him since his suspension.
It would be recalled that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Iba(retd) was appointed to oversee the affairs of the state for six months.
